Silver & Silver-Bearing Zu Cable Is Back In Stock

Pure Silver & Silver-Bearing Zu Cable Is Back In Stock

Several months ago we put the brakes on our Zu Cable interconnect, speaker and power cables that utilized large amounts of silver. The reason for this was price—silver prices had gone (and remain) bananas, and we were needing to reorder. Since larger purchases are required to get custom made exotic wire at sensible prices we generally order our silver and silver-bearing wire every year or so instead of quarterly. When we got our quote back prices had doubled. It was not the best day.

Despite the price, we love designing around silver and we love working with it. Its electrical, thermal and mechanical qualities make it fun all around (so long as you put price out of your mind). Silver is the most conductive metal, about 6% more conductive than copper and about 28% more conductive than gold. When used as a contact or platting material, silver has the distinct advantage of retainingd its conductivity even when tarnished and oxidized, whereas copper becomes non-conductive when oxidized or tarnished. And terminating silver based cable with connectors, espcially if the connectors are also silver plated, well, it’s almost lotus-eating levels of joy, just ask any solider slinger that works with it. Copper, gold, platinum, rhodium and other platings require at least a touch of fiddeling with flux formula and technique to get a good terminal connection.

While the price increase is significant, our Event cables, as well as our new Mission-LC (loudspeaker cable) remain one of the best values in the top-shelf hi-fi cable market. Try and compare, see how they do in your rig to your ears—our 60-day satisfaction, 100% money-back guarantee is our invitation.
