Gap Height Shim

Looking to make your own Omen gap-height shims? Here’s the template. The template is a quarter drawing, so it fits on a standard letter sized sheet of paper—Omen bottom is quadratically symmetrical so just draw the final form a quarter at a time.

Why do you want to do this? You can adjust the bass character of Omen loudspeakers by changing the gap between floor and the bottom of the Omen loudspeakers. This shim pattern will fit between the footers, even with Zu rubber footers installed. Depending on the amplifier driving the Omen, you might want to change the character of the bass. For some single-ended triode amps we find a very thin 1/8 inch [3mm] gap-height works to tighten up the bass and give it a bit deeper extension. For some solid-state amps we find a thick 3/4 inch [19mm] works well as some solid-state and push-pull tube amps sound overly damp with Omen.

  1. Download the PDF template.

  2. Print it out at 100% scale.

  3. Cut it out. The blue corner center mark is the center of the four-fold pattern.

  4. Using pizza box tops, or other cardboard, trace the pattern out using the blue center mark as the center.

  5. Slide it under your Omen, stacking them to create more or less gap between Omen bottom and floor.
