Soul Superfly Jupiter Upgrade Kit

New DIY upgrade kits featuring the new Jupiter Copper capacitors. The new caps are made by Jupiter Condenser Company specific for these upgrade kits. They feature built to length, junctionless solid-core 18 gauge copper leads. The originals featured solid-core pure silver 18 gauge leads but used a spliced junction for the extra length and mechanical qualities needed for plug-and-play instillation. Yes, a junctionless solid-core copper used in this way can be a bit fragile, but we have taken care—leads are insulated and toughened with Sumitube® K material. Sumi Type-K dramatically increases the leads toughness as well as providing stunning dielectric performance. A bit laborious but totally worth it. (Old photos shown, new are very similar and are being shot.)

Old vs New Notes

The original version used pure solid-core silver leads which did have slightly lower internal resistance then the same leads but made of pure copper (no other changes made). However, making the new all-copper Jupiter Copper caps with the juntionless built-to-length leads improves upon the original design and brings measures and fidelity back to equal-to performance without having to raise the price again (and again) due the runaway cost of silver.

They are the same 600V caps Jupiter has been making for us save the lead conductor change. All of our remaining original silver-lead Jupiter Copper caps are allocated for production and are not offered for DIY purchase.

Soul-1 Superfly Jupiter Copper Foil & Wax Capacitor Upgrade Kit has correct length leadouts that are prepped and terminated so you don’t have to mess with stripping or installing terminals. You will need to solder on the tweeter driver, but that is the extent of the soldering.

This kit replaced the the tweeter’s high-pass network. More information on the differences and what you can expect from this kit are discussed further down.

Video (link below) shows the upgrade being performed on the DW-6. It is similar to the Soul-1, the difference is there’s no foam piece to remove on the Soul-1, and the tweeter driver require soldering. No, you don’t want to add any foam to the Soul Mk.I, the DW-6 is very different funtionally—DO NOT CHANGE THE INTERNAL FOAM ARMAMENT.

How Long Does This Take?

2 hours of labor, 12 hours of letting the adhesive cure. Most will take about an hour to disassemble the pair of speakers, then another hour of labor to install and reassemble. This is a pretty easy swap out and the video is shot without much in editing, giving you a good idea of time and difficulty.

What Tools Are Needed?

  • Clean tabletop and blanket or pad, so you can operate on your speakers as they lay speaker drivers up

  • #1 square drive screwdriver

  • Torx T20 drive screwdriver

  • Soldering Iron (2 - 4% silver bearing solder is recommended)

What Are The Sound Differences Between The Standard, ClarityCap MR, And Jupiter Copper Foil & Wax?

Compared to the base model’s basic polypropylene capacitor, the Jupiter Copper is much more relaxed and smooth sounding, all while raising resolution. The combination of reduced noise and improved transient response let you hear deeper into the sound field—improved stereophony, better timber of brass and percussion-heavy instruments, more revealing vocals, improved tone and color resolution of string-based instruments—a very nice bump in smoothness and holography, where the recreated sound space is more “reach out and touch you” and buttery, without sacrificing any detail in resolution.
