James Read

DRIVER / BULK CABLE PRODUCTION LEAD

“Don’t do a job, or much else for the matter, unless you can do it right, every single time.” Nicknames: Jimmy James, Jimmy the Tulip. Cell # “Don’t have one, don’t want to be tracked down by the government.” Also does the Jimmy's Pick of the Week blog. “Well, get ready for an interesting bio about myself. Lets start with the fact that I’m a sports junky. I Love college football, especially Notre Dame football. And when it comes to college basketball, I’m a big fan of the Tar Heels. As you can see, I follow college sports a little more closely than professional. Didn’t I say this would be interesting. Anyway, maybe I should’ve started with music. Since Zu Audio and good music go hand in hand, I’m constantly searching for more good music to add to my collection. Music is my addiction. Some of my favorites include The Flaming Lips, Wilco, Calexico, Caribou, Four Tet, Spoon, Yo La Tengo, Nine Inch Nails, The Notwist, and anything involving Mike Patton.

I graduated from Weber State University, majoring in Graphic Art/Visual Communication. This degree really hasn’t done me much good here at Zu, but I thought I would mention it just to make myself seem more impressive. Part of my schooling included training in B&W and color photography. Since those days, I’ve become somewhat of an amateur photographer. If I could afford it, I would probably own every lens out there. Another big hobby of mine is snowboarding, Northern Utah is a great place for big mountain activities. Last but not least, I should probably mention my appreciation for the major motion picture. I’m a big fan of movies and popcorn. Heat, Fight Club, As Good as It Gets, Seven, Dog Day Afternoon, and the extended LOTR Trilogy are just a handful of my favorites.” James is the only guy at Zu that works on the full-range drivers. This ensures consistency and accuracy. He is also responsible for the remanufacture and modifications of the super-tweeter drivers; as well as raw cable production. He is also burdened with keeping everyone at Zu up to date on music. He is Zu’s resident DJ and music encyclopedia specializing in all things current and relevant. For James it’s not how many albums you own, most anyone can own albums, it’s about how much you appreciate it, what you know, and most importantly how often you get out and experience shows. James also plays guitar and sings, and when everyone from his band can get together plays in 2vs3. Outside audio he’s into snowboarding, roadbikes, both with and without peddles, football, basketball, girls and beer.
