In the late ‘90s the founders of Zu wondered, “Why had high fidelity audio become so clinical and dead, so widely unmoored from its pioneering past and the music and physics that had set it off?” The founders of Zu believed they had the passion, and experience, to create products that would exceed expectations; loudspeakers and cables that would return realism to the music and continually satisfy the listener. Our design innovations are our answer to the question of why modern hi-fi is so often clinical and dead. We believe “high-end” audio has focused to much on gimmick and not enough on fundamental electrodynamics, and has grown inattentive to the inspiration available through music. Zu’s answer? Study hard, listen to a lot of music and design loudspeakers that are highly effi cient for realistic dynamics and low distortion; main driver units that cover the widest bandwidth possible with a fl at bandwidth and weighted for bass; use as few parts in the signal path as possible; preserve phase coherence and time integrity for convincing presentation of soundspaces; produce a natural frequency balance in normal quarters; couple air with plenty of surface area rather than leaning on cone excursion for bass; all rolled up in a product that looks fantastic and occupies a modest footprint so it can be used in normal homes. Zu cable products are engineered and then refi ned with materials selection. Simply throwing exotic materials at a cable is not a solution.
